Ideal for grade 3, the Build a Musical Instrument activity guides students to investigate how energy is converted to produce sound energy and music in instruments. Students will then have the opportunity to design and build their own instruments with unique sounds.

By the end of the activity students should be able to:

• Use a variety of materials to construct an instrument
• Use a variety of designs to construct an instrument
• Compare effectiveness of various designs and materials
• Work with other students, using skills such as listening, speaking and problem solving in order to complete a construction project
