Ideal for grades 4-5, in this lesson students will learn how lenses can be used to create optical devices with different functions by examining a microscope and telescope. Students can then make their own optical devices using various lenses.

By the end of the activity students should be able to:

  • Understand that light can be reflected, absorbed, and refracted
  • Define reflection, refraction and absorption of light
  • Understand how light travels through different mediums
  • Use and describe various optical devices
