Cartoon Momentum

Downloadable (1 PDF - 9 pages)

Ideal for grades 10-12, this lesson is focused on students demonstrating mathematical and computational thinking of momentum and modeling conservation of momentum in an isolated system. This is done using cartoon clips to identify momentum, collisions and calculating the expected response. Students are asked to go beyond a surface level understanding by demonstrating where the cartoons accurately or inaccurately display conservation of momentum.

After completing this lesson, students will understand:

  • What conservation of momentum is in an isolated system and how to represent it mathematically

Resources included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Student worksheet
  • Answer key

Additional resources required:

  • Digital White board or projector
  • Internet connection
