During the Just Like My Parents activity, which is ideal for K-1, students will have an opportunity to see that animal traits are inherited from parents and are influenced by the environment the animal lives in.

By the end of the activity students should be able to:

  • Identify characteristics of various plants and animals
  • Categorize living things into various groupings
  • Identify and understand the basic needs of living things and how they meet these needs
  • Understand and explain the environment/habitat for various plants and animals
  • Identify examples of how plants and/or animals are able to modify their environment to meet their needs
  • Understand that some plants and animals must adapt to the environment in order to meet their basic needs
