How does Frozen Water Shape Our World is approximately 60 minutes long and includes Interactive Lessons with accompanying lesson notes. This lesson is broken into three PowerPoints, each with engaging activities at the end. During these lessons, which are ideal for grade 8, students will be considering:

• What are the characteristics of frozen water?
• Where is the world’s frozen water found?
• How do we know where ice has been in the past?
• How was the ice of the past linked to climate, and how is it connected today?
• How do we impact ice on the other side of the world?

Each of the three lessons have a narrated PowerPoint and a non-narrated PowerPoint option, allowing the teacher to decide if they wish to go through the PowerPoint with the students, or have the narrator do so.

Additional resources required for this activity:

• Containers for making small frozen pucks (e.g. muffin pans or 250 mL cream cheese containers)
• 2 transparent 500mL beakers or other vessels
• 5,250 mL water
• 250 mL olive oil
• Masking tape or a marker
• Graduated cylinder or measuring cup
• Access to a freezer
• Photos of glacial land forms, provided at the end of this document
• 2 or 3 transparent plastic storage bins with transparent lids, roughly 6 L in size
• Cardboard box large enough to contain one plastic storage bin
• 2 or 3 empty 2 L milk cartons
• 2 or 3 desk lamps or a sunny window
