Ideal for grades 4-5, the opening lesson introduces students to Leonardo Da Vinci as an engineer, scientist, and architect, and highlights his work with light and shadows. Students will understand some of the engineering feats accomplished by Da Vinci, and be introduced to key concepts for light and shadow.

By the end of the activity students should be able to:

  • Understand that light can be reflected, absorbed, and refracted
  • Define reflection, refraction and absorption of light
