Ever wonder how batteries make electricity? Using this four page PDF and some simple materials, you can make a basic voltaic battery and generate some electricity. You should be able to hear the electrical discharge through a pair of headphones connected to the battery.

After completing this 60 minute experiment, students will understand:

• A battery changes chemical energy into electrical energy (electricity)
• Energy can be transferred from place to place by electrical currents, sound, heat and light and can be converted from various forms of energy
